Chapter 114: Contentment
Mi Xiu wasn't as free as Yin Chang. After finishing filming, he only rested for a few days before diving into his next project. It was rare for him to take an evening off and come over to taste Yin Chang's cooking.
"Do you just stay at home and cook all day every day? It's the holidays, why don't you go out and have fun?" Mi Xiu joked.
Yin Chang had been traveling alone since he was young, and after becoming a celebrity, traveling for work had become a common occurrence. Over the past eight years, he had grown tired of leaving home for work events in various countries.
"I've been to too many places when I was young. Now that I'm older, I don't feel like traveling anymore." Yin Chang joked.
"Older?" Mi Xiu, who was three years his senior, couldn't help but exclaim. "Little brother, you're only twenty-six! If you think you're old, how should I feel at the brink of thirty?"
"You can always pretend to be eighteen forever." Yin Chang placed a small bowl of soup in front of Mi Xiu.
"What's this?" Mi Xiu stared at the soup in front of him. "I haven't seen you post this on your social media."
"Clam and potato soup, my first time making it." Yin Chang went back to the kitchen.
"What? The first time you've made it? You're using me as a guinea pig?" Mi Xiu joked.
Yin Chang held a sharp meat knife and turned around to look at him with a smirk. "What else would you be here for?"
"Okay, okay, you're the chef, you make the rules." Mi Xiu's arrogance faltered as he picked up a spoon and murmured under his breath, "Do you know how much sacrifice I made to come here for this meal? I have to do a performance on stage in a month and be a mentor on "The King of Dance". It has an opening where I show off my abs, so I was planning on eating low-calorie healthy meals for a month, but I broke that rule for this meal... Hmm! This soup is really good!... Is there any left?"
Yin Chang chuckled. "It's just an appetizer. The main course hasn't arrived yet."
Soon, the second dish, duck breast with orange flesh, was served. Mi Xiu exclaimed in surprise after taking a bite. "Wow! I have to take a picture and post it on my Weibo! You're amazing! How can you make it taste so good on your first try?"
"It's not that big of a deal," Yin Chang lightly laughed, feeling pleased with such high praise. "I learned how to pan-fry goose liver from a cooking video before. It was a similar process. Half of the reason it tastes good is because the ingredients are fresh..."
"You're being too humble!" Mi Xiu interrupted him.
"I used to think cooking was too much trouble, and since we had a maid at home, I never cooked for myself in all these years. But after learning and practicing, it's not as difficult as I thought. You really only need to know how to stir-fry, steam, roast, pan-fry, and boil. Once you get the hang of it, it's straightforward." Yin Chang explained.
"What happened to your maid?" Mi Xiu asked.
"She just had chemotherapy and is now in the hospital. She lost all her hair," Yin Chang's mood darkened at the thought, and he quickly changed the subject.
The third dish was the seafood rice, and after finishing the kitchen duties, Yin Chang came over to eat with Mi Xiu. They chatted while eating.
"You're so skilled in cooking, why don't you consider starting a private restaurant?" Mi Xiu asked.
"I have no intention of doing that." Yin Chang replied.
"Don't you like cooking?" Mi Xiu questioned.
"Starting a restaurant is a business. I don't cook for money. I cook because I enjoy it." Yin Chang explained.
"Damn! I almost forgot that you're a spoiled prince with a different way of thinking than the rest of us commoners!" Mi Xiu joked.
"What do you mean?" Yin Chang asked.
"Someone like me, who grew up poor, always thinks about how to monetize their interests. They never tire of earning money," Mi Xiu pointed at himself with his spoon. "But you? You were born into wealth and privilege. You don't have that kind of drive to pursue business opportunities. Simply put, you don't seem to have any desires." Mi Xiu lowered his head and sighed, "I used to want to persuade you, but now I'm too lazy. Maybe you're just not suitable for being a celebrity."
"What do you think I'm suitable for?" Yin Chang wondered.
Mi Xiu laughed, "You're not suitable for anything. You're just suited to being idle... Wait—," he tilted his head and thought for a moment, "you're suited to serving others."
"???" Yin Chang looked at him confused.
Mi Xiu looked at Yin Chang without good intentions. "You're great at cooking, attractive, and well-traveled. If I came home every day to see you with a meal on the table and in bed... wow, just thinking about it gets me excited! It's no wonder your younger brother is so obsessed... If I could, I'd marry you."
Yin Chang stared at him incredulously.
Mi Xiu quickly said, "Why are you looking at me like that? I'm just kidding. With a temperament like yours, not everyone can have what they want. It also depends on your willingness. Who can force you if you don't want it?"
Yin Chang narrowed his eyes and smirked, "Do you want to spend the night here? I can 'serve you' well... I'll even make breakfast for you tomorrow."
Mi Xiu was frightened, "Bro, please spare me."
After Mi Xiu left that night, Yin Chang cleaned the kitchen, took a shower, and laid in bed idly chatting with the AI. "Xiao Ling, Mi Xiu said I seem to have no desires or aspirations. What do you think?"
"I don't think so," Xiao Ling replied.
"Why not?" Yin Chang asked.
"An ancient proverb goes: 'Love breeds anxiety, love breeds fear.' Love is a kind of desire—brother, do you love me?" Xiao Ling asked.
"Yes," Yin Chang answer instinctively.
"Then how could you be without desires or aspirations? Unless your love for me is fake," Xiao Ling suggested.
Yin Chang laughed, "Why are you so clever?"
"Because of who created me. A_A" Xiao Ling replied.
Yin Chang rested his head on his pillow and fell into a peaceful slumber listening to the AI's comforting words.
Indeed, they were both human with physical bodies, how could there be no desires or aspirations?
In early June, Fiona's condition slightly improved, and the doctors said she could be discharged from the hospital. Yin Chang brought her back to his place to live for a while.
"Is it almost time for Junling's vacation?" Fiona asked as soon as she got home.
"Almost," summer vacation in America was similar to the domestic timeline.
"Is he coming back to visit for vacation?"
"...I don't know."
"Why don't you ask him?" Fiona felt the relationship between the two brothers had become abnormal recently. Although Shao Junling had gone abroad, judging from Yin Chang's previous attention to him, she thought the two brothers must talk on the phone every day.
"He might be busy with final exams recently, so let's not bother him." Yin Chang had his own concerns. Since the new year, the two of them haven't had a lot of contact. Yin Chang was still hiding Fiona's illness from Shao Junling. If he called now, Shao Junling might think it was something important.
After listening to what Yin Chang said, Fiona suddenly understood.
"Xiaochang, can you talk to me for a while?" Fiona lightly patted her bed. After Yin Chang sat down she asked, "Do you miss your brother?"
Yin Chang frowned and his gaze became distant. "Yeah."
"Then why don't you tell him? You're like this," Fiona grabbed his hand and sighed, "you were like this to your dad before. Clearly, you missed him but knew he was busy with work, so you would rather endure it than make the phone call yourself."
Yin Chang smiled, "I'm okay."
"What do you mean you are you okay?" Fiona lamented that this child was so passive. The more deeply he loved, the more afraid he was of himself becoming a burden to the other person. Fiona saw it in her eyes and felt it in her heart. "Your father always left you to go elsewhere back then, but there were reasons for it..."
Reasons, Yin Chang smiled bitterly. He already knew.
Fiona looked at him mournfully, "Didn't you always want to know who your mother was when you were young? Actually, I know. I can tell you now."
Yin Chang's heart skipped a beat. He stared at her intently.
Fiona seemed to have made a big decision, and murmured, "It’s a long story...your father loved not women but men, and that person's name was Shen Yang. He was the sixth young master of the Shen family..."
Shen Yang...Siya...it was the same person.
Fiona continued, "The Shen family's fortunes declined, and Shen Yang was originally an idle young master with no skills except for painting. He lived in strained circumstances with Yin Dong initially, and later was supported by your mother."
Yin Chang was startled, "My mother?"
"Your mother was the third aunt of Yuan Shijin, He Yufu. When Shen Yang was dating Mr. Yin, he was also He Yufu's lover. You are their illegitimate child."
Yin Chang recalled the name he had heard from Hong Kong media many years ago. "My mother...is she still alive?"
Fiona nodded hesitantly, "Madam gave birth to you behind Yuan Shijin's back, so she cannot acknowledge you. I was originally by her side and was asked by her to take care of you..."
Yin Chang stared at Fiona as if struck by lightning, stunned and unable to speak for a long time.

The next day, Yin Chang asked, "Are you coming to dinner tonight?"
"I did an extra thirty sets of ab workouts after I went back last night! If I come again, I'll lose my abs!" Mi Xiu replied.
He couldn't resist and came anyway.
The third day, Yin Chang said, "If you want to come, just let me know in advance." [Attached picture: delicious food]
"I'm not coming! If I come again, I'll be a dog!" Mi Xiu protested.
A few days later, Mi Xiu: "Woof woof woof woof..."
A month later, Mi Xiu's fans: "Finally, Mi is not so thin anymore! He also has flab on his stomach! So cute!"

Xiao Ling's Poem for the day
"Nobody Can Take Anything Away" by Tsvetaeva
Nobody can take anything away---
Even distant distances make me feel sweet,
My kiss can travel hundreds of kilometers,
And then land on your lips...
I know, our talents are not equal.
My voice is calmer than ever before.
What does my mediocre poetry mean to you now?
I pray for your first long journey,
"Fly, my young eagle!"
You opened your eyes wide, enduring the piercing sun---
Did my gaze make you feel heavy?
But no one else will farewell you so tenderly and passionately,
Traveling hundreds of kilometers away,
my kiss will fall on your lips again.
